We are supposed to be freaked out in those right? Or at the very least a little nervous!
Well, ever since I can remember, I have been around Fireman, EMT's, and Policeman. I grew up with a dad who worked with the police department in DC and a mom who for a majority of my life carried many roles in are local firehouse OWL VFD ( Occoquan Woodbridge Lorton Volunteer Fire Department).
I remember times when I would go to my dads work to hang out with him for the day. He would try to be funny by sticking my sister and I in the back of the police car when we were on our way to get breakfast. Then he would turn the sirens on trying to embarrass us. By having it look like we were a couple of bad guys. Or when we were at his work he would stick us in a Jail cell and close the door so he could get a picture. He would then tease us and pretend he was going to leave us in there.
I remember things like this and just find myself laughing. Now when I go to work occasionally to help him my dad, he laughs saying " You're the only person I know who is completely at ease in a police car, ambulance, or fire truck." Him not being completely sure if that is a good or bad thing.

Now granted I have never been on the wrong side of the law before. So I do not know how I would react if I was in that situation.
But because of being surrounded by people who would do anything so they could help treat, protect, and help make the world a better place is why I decided I wanted to become an EMT when I was 16. To get over my queasy stomach. To help me with wanting to work in the Criminal Justice Field. Just like my dad, I wanted to help keep the world safe. I have not specifically decided on a field in Criminal Justice I want yet. Though my hope is by the end of this year I have a better idea.
When I decided to get my EMT, I wanted to do it so I could get over my queasy feeling. I knew that if I wanted to get into Criminal Justice that I could not have a weak stomach. Since having my EMT, my weak stomach has become stronger. Things that once grossed me out do not anymore.
I am trying to live my life by making the right choices. As well as preparing myself the best that I can for my future career, because when the time comes I want to be ready and have nothing in my way. I will be prepared and ready. This is my plan of what I hope to do this year. After all as E.B. White once stated " I arise in the morning torn between a desire to improve the world and a desire to enjoy the world. This makes it hard to plan the day."

There are great elements of fun in this post. I can see why criminal justice holds a close place in your heart. It also sounds like your father was a great man. He reminds me of my uncle, who was also a police officer, and the hijinks we all got into when we were visiting my cousins during summer vacation.
ReplyDeleteYou know what I'm wondering? What are the main criminal justice career fields? Some might include EMTs, but why wouldn't they possibly be there? And what's the difference between an EMT and a paramedic? Explain to your audience...
Well those all are very good questions. The criminal Justice field is a huge field that just keeps growing so there are many things for someone to bring. And about what the difference in a EMT and Paramedic I will make sure I cover that next post because that is a good idea. I am not really sure what you meet about the Emt's before.
ReplyDeleteI think this was a great post with very good use of humor. It's also nice to see you growing as an individual and pursing a career thats as humbling and has such an amazing impact on people.
ReplyDeleteIm really interested in seeing what else your blog has to offer to others. Overall great post!
